Castles and villages
The charming towns of Castelo de Vide and Marvão are among the most beautiful historic villages in the Alto Alentejo. In Castelo de Vide, a well-preserved castle and the picturesque Jewish quarter with its narrow lanes invite you to explore. High on a rocky crag, Marvão is crowned by its imposing fortress and offers spectacular views across the wide landscape — a place of which Fernando Pessoa said you could "watch even the birds from above". Both towns combine history, nature and remarkable views in a truly unique way.
Hiking
Right from our holiday farm, a wealth of hiking opportunities opens up through the Serra de São Mamede nature park. A well-signposted network of trails leads through varied landscapes of forests, gentle hills and stunning viewpoints — ideal for relaxed strolls as well as longer tours. Around Castelo de Vide and Marvão you can choose from numerous official routes of varying difficulty, including popular circular walks with wonderful views over the region. Here on site you will also find hiking brochures and tips, so you can set off on your walk straight from the farm with no fuss.
Swimming: river beach and reservoir
On warm days there are plenty of ways to cool off around Castelo de Vide and Marvão. The idyllic river beach of Portagem is especially popular, inviting you to relax with its clear water and shady spots. The choice is rounded off by the well-kept open-air pools in Portagem and Castelo de Vide, which are ideal for families. If you prefer something quieter, the nearby Póvoa e Meadas reservoir offers more natural bathing spots amid the landscape of the Alto Alentejo.
Railbike
The Rail Bike Marvão holds a very special experience in store: along a disused railway line you pedal small rail vehicles through the untouched landscape of the Serra de São Mamede nature park. The route links the historic stations of Marvão-Beirã and Castelo de Vide — a line that opened back in the 19th century and was only closed in 2012.
Along the old tracks you enjoy sweeping views of castles, villages and nature — and even ride right past our farm. An extraordinary yet wonderfully unhurried adventure that brings together movement, history and landscape in a special way.
Climbing
On the striking rock face above Castelo de Vide awaits a small but varied via ferrata that is especially well suited to beginners and offers spectacular views of the town and the surrounding landscape. The roughly 200–300 metre route runs along the cliff near Senhora da Penha and is technically moderate (difficulty around K2), so even less experienced guests can manage it comfortably with a guide.
Just a few minutes away lies a small high-ropes course ("Parque Aventura"), particularly suited to families and beginners. The course crosses several suspension bridges at heights of up to eight metres and is complemented by a zip line and a small climbing wall. An easy-going outdoor experience in the heart of nature — perfect for an active afternoon.
Birdwatching
At our holiday farm near Castelo de Vide and Marvão an impressive bird world awaits you.
In the untouched landscape, with a little luck you can watch majestic vultures and various birds of prey (eagles and kites) as well as numerous white storks soaring across the sky.
Around the farm, swallows and countless songbirds bring lively activity and a special atmosphere. An ideal spot for nature lovers and anyone who wants to enjoy the calm and diversity of the wildlife.
